describe being a vfx supervisor as one word: a TRANSLATOR
liked illustration-but did’t like illustrating something someone else asks
running around studios as a runner, delivering finalled package-made me confident
life balance-family come to visit where I am location/location
importance of saying ‘’no this can be done by someone else’’
what is your strategy to hit target?
-depends on client relationships and expectation-what do you need to show, how often to show
-production management- crew management - don’t spend too much time on something without sharing what you are doing-management on render time-predict-knowing how much of impact your note creates
-experience as an editorial- plan 1.3 to create a buffer
-follow mum’s rule-do easy ones first
-team, people who you can trust. and then ‘’translation’’
how you break down the show in the beginning phase of the show?
-create a spread sheet. start broad. read the script, start categorising. 2D/3D. big shot? small shot? what is the things to ask to the client? chop it up
-communication. prefer to know a problem that it’s a problem, rather than knowing at the very end
how do you manage deadline panic? managing stress? communicate?
-knowing problem, coaching, try to pull the best performance in the situation , alleviate tension
what do you enjoy as a vfx sup you never thought you would?
-having been through many positions so I can talk to people with the same background
-excel spread sheet!
-in 150 people company, getting close to each other, their family
-working directly with directors, being involved in directing process a bit, editing change etc.
-understanding camera, lens. travel! in early 90s everything was happening only in LA!
-de-centralisation - travel, globally the level of vfx is rising. part of the beauty of the industry
